All year long people have been saying to me “Ooh have your seen this craft or that craft on Pinterest?” Up until this week I have stayed away from Pinterest, plenty of ideas from other places. Well I have signed up and after one session the brain was exploding with possibilities. I spent a bit of time this week trying out different Christmas decoration ideas so I can share them in a fun evening/day of crafts and nibbles. Well, guess what, some of those ideas aren’t as easy as they look. Hot glue and glitter and not a lot to show, except maybe green spider webs – could use for Halloween I suppose. J So I’m offering some tested decorations and a promise that at the end of the session everyone will go home with 5 usable decorations, complete with templates and instructions for the ones you like so you can keep creating at home. Save buying all the extra bits and pieces and then deciding you don’t want to make it after all. With a maximum of 8-10 and nibbles to keep you going, all the glitter mess can be kept at my place, book soon. $30 per person Monday 7 November 7 – 9.30pm Contact me via Facebook or email if a better time/day would suit and I will see what I can fit in.

Blog #1 23 October 2016 So Roger (him that gives me suggestions) has suggested I start a blog. I talk all day, but now to put it in writing is a bit harder. He suggested I start with my latest creation – another of Sues’ Looms. Chunky Loom kits – weave a wall hanging or cushion cover. Recently I have seen various size wall hangings, from almost as small as business cards in fine threads to King bed size using chunky wools. I know my grandchildren like to weave a bit and that I really enjoyed weaving as a child, so here is my first Chunky Loom Kit, small size. First in the design process was to make it light enough to use sitting in a chair or at a table but not so flimsy as to disintegrate with use. The weaving is the same principle as tapestry weaving, but not so fine – I tried it and the process was too slow for me. So, a sturdy frame, glued and screwed to save on weight, and pegs instead of nails, to enable the use of thicker yarns. What to add to a kit? A variety of yarns to make life interesting. 6 packs, with a mystery textured yarn added for interest. With 20+ colours to choose from there will be no shortage of variety. Oh and a shuttle – Please Dave the woodworking man, can you create me something small, smooth and usable for smaller hands? Obliging man that he is, he has created 26cm shuttles using reclaimed kauri and rimu timbers, just perfect. Then Instructions. – To do these I needed action photos, how sad, another excuse to spend time weaving J. I started the weaving and then perfectly timed, Tess (8 year old granddaughter) came for a visit, and whilst trying out my loom for me I managed a great photo. One handed weaving/camera action is a little fiddly, but the instructions are done – proofed by a nonweaver, who said they make sense, so hope so. Now all boxed up and ready to go. $59.50 with $9 P&P anywhere in NZ Funnily enough, it has taken me as long to add photos to this as it did to write the words. Maybe faster next time. |
