One constant in life is that things will change Late 2019 brought changes for me and Creative Spaces. The closing of Waitomo Sew Worms has impacted on Creative Spaces in a variety of ways: Plus & minus. Sheridan St is now much quieter, a plus in that there is always a parking space, negative that there are not so many people wandering to have a look to see what I’m up to. Also, as part of my shop is no longer rented as storage for Sew Worms, I have way more space, which is just as well, as I now have a great stock of Haberdashery, Buttons, Zips with sewing threads and embroider threads on the way very soon. More space means that I am also stocking a bit more local craft, with stock growing. The only other negative is that some people have confused the two shops, and assume that it is me that has been closed down. Another plus is that Creative Spaces is the sole supplier of The Possum Guy Possum/Merino Blend Yarn. 75% Merino (21 micron) 25% Possum (18 micron). 100gm skeins (230 mt) Natural $30 Dyed by Sue $38 Myself and others have had a creative time working with this lovely soft yarn to create some samples, in store I have machine knit, crochet, weaving, hand knit samples. The Possum Guy Possum/Merino Blend Yarn was developed to address the disparity occurring in the quality of similar yarn products. As a general rule all the fur on the possum is used in other products resulting in the possum fibres that are shorter to fall out and lower the longevity of the garments made. The defining difference in The Possum Guy yarn that only the long, superior fur is hand plucked off the possum meaning when blended with Merino wool a yarn is produced, which when knitted is stronger, warmer and lasts longer. It is Guy’s mission to provide superior quality yarn at affordable prices so that knitters everywhere can be assured the yarn they are using is the best available on the market. Below is a photo of The Possum Guy – Guy Savidge wearing his commissioned jersey, designed and machine knitted by Gaye Hall. Gaye also designed a small child’s jerkin, the pattern will be available from February. I continue to create as the fancy takes me, the past couple of weeks has seen a variety of Macrame creations, as well as sample knitting of instore products. The sales of my looms continue to tick over, with me tap, tap, tapping in my workshop some mornings as I add nails. Not as many workshops happening as I would like, as people seem hesitant to commit to dates, although we did have fun Macrame Plant Hanger and Christmas Tree sessions. REMINDER: let me know any workshops you would like and I will make them happen to suit you. “It’s Your Story, so you can change it.” Seen this morning on Instagram posted by Tracey Hancock. Sue Sands . May 2019 Hi everyone I’m still here!! It has been some months since I have been in touch. Life certainly gets busy and time flies. How easy it is to get caught up in what is happening around us and it is sometimes a struggle to fit in our own life goals. I know this, as I have started workshops lists a few times and been overwhelmed with fitting in everything else. What’s coming up for Creative Spaces? Workshops All my classes can be set up to suit a time for you. I am booking up a few dates now when I know I can be out of town, but do ask. When I can I am happy to travel. Other option is to come stay with me for a weekend, we could do multiple classes. Weaving, dyeing, felting, macramé, dream catchers………. Continuous Strand Weaving – Square Hamilton 18 May I don’t yet have a venue, so if someone would like it in their home for a cosy morning with friends, that could work. Learn the basics for Square Weaving. Make 4 different squares and learn to join. All materials supplied for $65, Loom, hook and 2 balls of wool. I can also do the same in Putaruru or Tokoroa the weekend of 25/26 May Knit/Crochet Once a week – Wednesday evenings from 7.00 – 9.00 Oddly enough, I am often asked about a daytime one, but when I set dates no one comes. If interested, PLEASE do tell me what will suit. I’m itching to hold Macrame and Dream Catcher classes Any takers. I have heaters in the shop for these lovely winter evenings. OR These could be done at your home – get a group together. A bit of supper (or what you prefer) and we could have a fun evening.
